How to hire a detailer without getting burned

What actually drives the price, how long the work really takes, and the questions worth asking first.

Why prices vary

Two things move the number: the size of the vehicle and the condition it arrives in. A three-row van has roughly twice the interior surface of a sedan. Pet hair, set-in stains, salt, and heavy soil each add manual time that no product shortcuts.

Anyone who gives you a firm price without seeing the vehicle is guessing, and the difference gets made up somewhere.

Why it takes time

Most details run between three and eight hours. The stages have to happen in order: assess, strip and vacuum, clean and treat, then wash and finish. Products need dwell time, and upholstery needs drying time between passes.

A full interior and exterior promised in under an hour is a wash, not a detail.

Licensing and insurance

Ask to see both. A licensed and insured detailer is covered if something goes wrong with your vehicle while it is in their care. An uninsured one leaves that risk with you, and you usually find out at the worst possible moment.

Kailer's High End Detailing is licensed and insured, Owner's Pride trained, and a proud member of the International Detailing Association.

Questions worth asking first

Are you licensed and insured, and can I see it?

A straight yes with proof attached is the only good answer. Hesitation here tells you what you need to know.

What exactly is included at this price?

You want the steps listed, not a package name. 'Interior detail' means different things to different shops.

What would change this quote?

A good detailer names the things up front: pet hair, set-in stains, salt, heavy soil. A bad one says nothing and adds it later.

How long will you have my vehicle?

Three to eight hours is normal for a real detail. An hour is a wash.

What happens if I am not happy with something?

There should be a stated recheck window. Ours is 24 hours.
